27 ‘members of mugging syndicate’ held in city

Police in a special drive have arrested 27 suspected members of a mugging syndicate from different parts of the city.
The drive was conducted from April 6 to 8 as part of the security ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, said Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (Admin and DB South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police while briefing reporters at the DMP media centre.
The drive was conducted in Hazaribagh, Chawkbazar, Lalbagh, Kamrangirchar and Shahbagh areas in the city.
The arrestees were Abdur Rahman Shubho,22, Yeasin Arafat, 19, Babu Mia, 28, Farhad, 21, Hridoy Sarkar, 24, Akash, 20, Jony Khan, 22, Rokon, 18, Mehedi Hasan alias Imran, 27, Monir Hossain, 41, Jewel, 22, Jahangir Hossain alias Michel, 36, Azim alias Galakata Azim, 35, Shakil alias Laden, 24, Imon, 22, Rajib, 25, Russel, 32, Mintu Mia alias Bidyut, 39, Masud, 30, Tajul Islam Mamun, 30, Sabuj, 30, Jibon, 25, Riazul Islam, 25, Munna Hawladar, 19, Shakil Hawladar, 20, Ferdous, 22 and Abul Kalam Azad, 34.
Police also recovered some sharp weapons, sedatives and toxic elements from their possessions.
After primary interrogation, they confessed that they looted cash and ornaments from people after using sedatives.
Of them, 20 were wanted in different criminal cases including that of theft, robbery and drugs.
