Amar Ekushey Book Fair to be held from Feb 15 to 28: Khalid

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid today said the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, which usually begins on the first day of February, will be held from February 15 to 28 this year due to the ongoing Coronavirus situation.

“If the COVID-19 situation is improved, the issue of increasing the book fair’s timeframe will be considered later,” he told the third meeting of the Management Committee of Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2022 at Kobi Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room of Bangla Academy here.

Speaking as the chief guest, Khalid said the book fair will open at 2 pm every day and will continue till 9 pm, but the visitors can enter the fair till 8:30 pm every day.

During the weekly holidays -Friday and Saturday – and other public holidays, the fair will begin at 8 am and continue till 9 pm, he said.

The state minister said this time a beautiful children’s corner will be set up at the book fair. Besides, he said, a taskforce will remain active so that none can sell pirated books at the book fair.

He said his ministry and Bangla Academy will take necessary steps so that no publisher incurs any loss due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bangla Academy director general Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, secretary (joint-secretary) of Bangla Academy AHM Lokman, Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2022 Managing Committee member secretary and director of Bangla Academy Dr Jalal Ahmed, and managing committee member Prof Dr Mohammad Kaikobad also spoke at the meeting.
