Azad for getting rid of alien culture, ill-politics
NM News Desk: Dhaka, Apr-03,
BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor and former Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Abul Kalam Azad has called upon all to work together to get rid of alien culture and ill-politics.
“Apart from shunning mal-journalism, we also want to get rid of alien culture and ill-politics. We have to work together to this end while genuine journalists should work for removing the mal-journalism,” he said.
The Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) chief came up with the remarks while addressing a journalist rally as the chief guest at a convention center here on Saturday.
Brahmanbaria Union of Journalists (BUJ) organized the programme, marking the country’s golden jubilee of independence.
Journalist-friendly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking the country towards development, Azad said, adding, “We want a Bangladesh of non-communal spirit”.
“We see the presence of free thinking people in this district (Brahmanbaria). Again we see the mayhem of Hefajat at Press Club. It hurts us,” he said.
Urging the journalists to work for the welfare of the country’s people, the journalist leader asked the newsmen not to sell their heads at any stage.
Noting that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had worked for the welfare of the people throughout his life and his able daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is doing so, Azad said, “She has become world leader by dint of her own qualification”.
He also urged all not to patronize the anti-liberation forces, saying Pakistan-minded people in Bangladesh should live here bowing down their heads.
Addressing the rally as the special guest, former BFUJ President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul said the people’s trust in the mass media has decreased globally.
According to a survey conducted in 11 European countries, 63 percent people have no trust in mass media and they don’t trust the newspapers.
BFUJ President Omar Faruque inaugurated the rally while General Secretary Dip Azad addressed the programme as the main speaker with BUJ President Dipak Chowdhury Bappy in the chair.
BFUJ Vice-President Madhusudan Mondal, Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, Office Secretary Sebika Mondal, union leader Dipak Kumar Acharya, Brahmanbaria Press Club President Riaz Uddin Jami and General Secretary Jabed Rahim Bijan addressed the rally as special speakers.
Later, a cultural event was held at the same venue.
