Bangladesh chess team lost to Iceland by 1.5 – 2.5 game points in the open division of the ninth round of 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad now being held at Mahabalipuram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

The ninth round game were held Sunday last evening with Grand Master (GM) Enamul Hossain Razib (rating-2377), GM Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2424) and FIDE Master (FM) Mehdi Hasan Parag (Rating-2227) split point with GM Gretarsson, Hjorvar Steinn (Rating-2563), GM Stefansson Hannes (Rating-2541) and GM Gretarsson Helgi Ass (Rating-2472) of Iceland respectively.

Grand Master Niaz Murshed (Rating-2413) lost to grandmaster Kjartansson Gudmundur (Rating-2448).

In the open category, Bangladesh team is now in 65th position with 10 points from nine matches.

In the women’s division, the women’s team of Bangladesh won against Iraq by 3-1 game points in this round. In the women’s category, woman International
Master (IM) Sharmin Sultana Shirin (rating-1995), woman FM Noshin Anjum (rating-2027) and woman FM Nazrana Khan Eva (Rating-1829) won against Al-
Fayyadh Zainab Asif Abdulah (rating-1149), Sara Masood Abdullah (rating-1677) and Tiba Mahdi Attiyah (Rating-1759) of Iraq respectively.

Woman candidate master Jannatul Ferdous (rating-1815) of Bangladesh split point with woman FIDE master A-Ali Sali Abbas Abdulzahra (Rating-1864) of
Iraq.

Bangladesh women’s team are now in 55th place with 10 points from nine matches.
