Begum Rokeya University celebrates ‘Pahela Baishakh’

Authorities of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) today celebrated the ‘Pahela Baishakh’ with colorful celebrations on the campus amid huge festivity and fanfare.

Marking the occasion, a colorful ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ was brought out from the mural premises of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 9:30 am with the participation of teachers, students, officials and employees of the university.

Wearing traditional Baishakhi dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners in their hands and singing `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’—, the participants welcomed the ‘Pahela Baishakh’, the first day of Bengali New Year- 1429.

The ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’, accompanied by songs and musical instruments and displaying various traditions of Bengali culture, went around the main roads of the campus and returned to the mural premises of Bangabandhu.

Later, Pro Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina spoke there putting importance on nurturing Bengali cultures and possessing those in spirit of the War of Liberation to establish a secular, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.

President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers Association (BRUTA) Md. Shariful Islam, its Registrar Engineer Mohammad Alamgir Chowdhury, General Secretary BRUTA Syed Anwarul Azim, Associate Professor of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Apel Mahmud and General Secretary of the University’s Officers’ Association and Member Secretary of the Pahela Baishakh Celebration Committee Mohammad Ali also spoke.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts and convener of the Pahela Baishakh Celebration Committee Professor Dr. Abu Saleh Mohammad Wadudur Rahman (Tuhin Wadud) gave the closing speech on the occasion moderated by Associate Professor of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Umar Farooque.
