BNP is patron of fanatic, communal forces: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader   yesterday said the BNP is the patron of the country’s fanatic and communal forces. He made the remark while speaking at a press conference on  contemporary issues at his official residence here. The country’s people know better who practice the communal politics and  use religion as a tool of politics, said Quader, also the road transport and  bridges minister, adding the BNP is the patron and reliable resort of  extremism and communal forces here.

Mentioning that the BNP depends on the communal forces in assuming power  and sustaining it, the AL general secretary said the party in 1991 came to  the power in collusion with the communal forces. The BNP uses communalism as  a tool of assuming the state power, he added.     He said the religious extremism emerged in the country during the BNP  regime, while bomb blasts took place in the country’s 63 districts  simultaneously. Quader said the BNP patronised Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Bangla  Bhai, who resorted to religious extremism in the country.

In the spirit of the Liberation War, the Awami League wants to build a  non-communal Bangladesh, but the BNP in association with defeated forces of  the Liberation War wants to destroy the country’s communal harmony, he said.     About the local government elections, the AL general secretary instructed  the AL men not to breach organisational discipline and get involved in  internal conflicts centring the nominations of the union parishad elections.  He warned that if any AL leader or worker violates the party’s discipline,  stern organisational actions would be taken against the person.  As per the directives of the AL chief, a list of those who breached the  party discipline is being prepared, Quader said, warning that no wrongdoer  would be spared. If anyone is elected uncontested in the elections, it would  be considered as an act of breaching the party discipline, he added.

Noting that the Awami League is a party of commoners, he said Father of the  Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman struggled in his entire life to  establish the rights of the country’s people while his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina – is working relentlessly to materialise the dream of  her father.     Quader said as the AL practices policies for the people, they are the  lifeline of the party. On the other hand, he said, the country’s people  rejected those who use power as a key to changing their fortune, accumulation  of illegal wealth and doing the politics of killing and intrigue.
