BSMRSTU gets an insufficient budget for FY 22-23

University Grants Commission (UGC) approved Tk 50.45 crore as the annual budget of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) for the 2022-23 fiscal year. The UGC budget has been declining gradually in the last three fiscal years.
According to the information of the University, earlier the budget for the FY 2020-21 was 54.02 crore, the budget for FY 2021-22 was 51.70 crore and the budget allocation for FY 2022-23 was 50.45 crore.
UGC member Professor Dr. MD Abu Taher, in Incharge of the Department of Finance and Accounts, said, ‘High amount of Budget required in the first few years after starting a university to ensure various facilities including Construction of lab and transportation. Later, the budget declined due to lab and transportation.
‘Earlier, The daily wage employees were paid, but the sector is not being paid now due to restrictions. For all these reasons, the budget has been reduced,’ he added.
The vice-chancellor Professor AQM Mahbub said, ‘UGC has not given us the details of our budget yet. This budget will be revised later. We repeatedly told UGC that the allocated budget is less than needed and they should increase it.’
