Cannes 2022 to witness vibrant presence of Bangladeshi stars

Bangladeshi film actors, actresses, and filmmakers have flown to Cannes, France to attend promotional events for their upcoming films at Marché du Film during the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which commenced on Tuesday.
Marché du Film Festival de Cannes is the film industry hub in Cannes. It is held annually in conjunction with the Cannes Film Festival. Over 12,500 film industry professionals head to Cannes each year to present and discover almost 4,000 films and projects in development at 33 screening venues.
The 90-second trailer of Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal-directed upcoming film Mujib: The Making of a Nation, a biopic on the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is scheduled to be screened at the Indian Pavilion on May 19.
India has been named the official country of honour for the Marche du Film 2022. Arifin Shuvoo, who has played Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, who has played the character of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, will participate in the trailer launch of the film. Nusrat Imrose Tisha went to Cannes with her husband filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and child. Farooki in a Facebook post wrote, ‘Traveling to Cannes as a babysitter! Tisha is going for the trailer launch of her film Mujib. And me a babysitter! Very new and beautiful role for me! And oh it’s Ilham’s first tour.’
Bangladeshi businessman and popular actor Ananta Jalil and his actress wife actress Afiea Nusrat Barsha have also travelled to Cannes to showcase the trailers of their upcoming films Din-The Day and Netri-The Leader. Ananta Jalil in a video message posted on his Facebook page said that Din-The Day will hit cinemas in Bangladesh on Eid-ul-Azha and he would meet producers and journalists from different countries at Cannes.
Nuhash Humayun’s short film Moshari will be featured in Fantastic 7, which is being presented by Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, together with the partnership of the Marché du Film Festival de Cannes and INCAA International Affairs Manager Bernardo Bergeret. Fantastic 7, scheduled to be held at Palais K, Cannes on May 22, will be organised following a hybrid format. The pitching session will be live-streamed on Marche du film, online.
Nuhash Humayun’s horror short film Moshari recently won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Short at the Atlanta Film Festival 2022, one of the few Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the world. Besides, Bangladeshi film critique and writer Bidhan Rebeiro has been invited to attend the 2022 Cannes Film Festival as a jury for the International Federation of Film Critics.
The 75th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 17 to May 28.
