Chawkbazar fire: six deaths restaurant owner remanded

A court here today placed one Md Fakhar Uddin, owner of Barishal Hotel and Restaurant, in a case lodged over the death of his six staff in a deadly fire that ripped through a four-storey building in old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area on Monday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order as police produced Fakhar before the court and pleaded to place him on seven-day
remand.
The fire, believed to be originated from a plastic product factory situated in the building, quickly engulfed the whole infrastructure, killing the six
hotel staff on the ground floor of the building.
Police arrested Fakhar from Subhadya area of Keraniganj early today.
