Comilla Victorians kept their trust in Imrul Kayes, giving him the responsibility of leading the side in the eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament.

Kayes led the side to clinch their second BPL title last time in 2019 when the tournament was held. This time they also formed a formidable team, which has all the ingredients to be successful.

Unarguably the biggest name in this year’s BPL is Faf du Plessis, the South African star who is in Comilla Victorians.

While Kayes is quite confident with his team, he respects the rest, saying, “Every team is good in T20 cricket. No one can say we are a less good team. Now the thing is to play cricket well on the field. In fact, cricket is not an individual game although we have a lot of big names on the team. But we have to prove it by playing on the field. Then you will understand how good a team we are. ‘

Therefore, waiting for a good start, Kayes said, “It is important to start on a good note in a tournament like BPL. No matter how big a team you are, momentum is important and so a good start is needed.” There are no big names like Tamim, Mahmudullah or Mashrafe in the team. But where Du Plessis is, Kayes has little to worry about. The former South African captain is one of the best batsmen of all time. He has a good reputation not only as a batsman but also as a team man. Kayes wants to make his job easier by using his experience. “He is a big star, especially in the T20s. He shared his experience of how to bat in IPL or other tournaments.

I told him about the wicket and condition of our country, how the wickets are. We also talked about what our
team’s plan should be. As he is very experienced, we need his help in the field,” Kayes concluded.
