
Covid-19 positivity rate jumps to 14.02% in Rangpur division

The daily Covid-19 positivity rate jumped to 14.02 percent in the Rangpur division where 23 fresh cases were reported after testing 164 new samples at two laboratories on Thursday. Health officials said the pandemic situation continued to improve during the last four months in the division, but the daily passivity rate marked a sharply rising trend in the past few days.
Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 10.84 percent on Wednesday, 4.11 percent on Tuesday, 13.50 percent on Sunday, 13.58 percent on Saturday, 3.66 percent on Friday, and 5.26 percent on Thursday last in the division. Among the 23 new patients, seven were reported positive after testing 70 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at a 10 percent positivity rate today.
“The seven new patients include six from Rangpur and one from Dinajpur districts,” said Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy. Meanwhile, 16 new patients were reported positive after testing 94 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at a 17.02 percent positivity rate today. Talking to the media, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam said the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 55,898 as 23 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.
The district-wise break up of a total of 55,898 patients includes 12,618 of Rangpur, 3,838 Panchagarh, 4,469 of Nilphamari, 2,771 of Lalmonirhat, 4,653 of Kurigram, 7,708 of Thakurgaon, 14,956 of Dinajpur and 4,885 of Gaibandha in the division.
