
Dr Wazed’s life, works exemplary for present generation: Speaker

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the life and works of renowned nuclear scientist Dr. MA Wazed Miah are exemplary for the present generation.
“Dr. Wazed had a very honest and strong personality. He was able to establish himself in the international arena with his enormous talent and skills,” she said while virtually addressing a discussion as the chief guest.
Pirganj upazila administration organized the virtual event in observance of the 13th death anniversary of nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr. M A Wazed Miah (Sudha Miah) at Pirganj upazila parishad auditorium.
Special dua and munajats were offered seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Dr. MA Wazed Miah on the occasion.
The Speaker said the contribution of Dr. Wazed should be spread to all, through which the new generation will be encouraged to build a life like his in the process of building a prosperous nation.
“Skilled nuclear scientists like Dr. Wazed are very essential for the development of the country,” she said.
Dr. Shirin said the new generation has a lot to learn from this great man Dr. Wazed who was born in Pirganj upazila.
“Dr. Wazed has made outstanding contributions to his specialized field of science and technology. His books have been published. He was involved in many research works. He has taught and researched at various reputed
universities abroad,” she said.
The Speakers said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Dr. MA Wazed Miah’s two children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Hossain are working today proving their enormous talents and merits.
“Saima Hossain is working around the world to solve the complexities of autism and Sajeeb Wazed Joy is a world renowned IT expert who is working as the architect of Digital Bangladesh,” she said.
Pirganj Upazila Executive Officer Biroda Rani Roy presided over the function.
Acting President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League (AL) Professor Nurul Amin Raja, its General Secretary and Pirganj Municipal Mayor Tajimul Islam Shamim, district AL Member Shahidul Islam Pintu, Chairman of Pirganj Upazila Parishad Nur Mohammad Mandal, among others, addressed the virtual discussion from the Pirganj end.
Earlier, the observance began with placing wreaths at the grave of Dr. MA Wazed Miah at his native village Laldighee Fatehpur paying rich tribute to him in the morning.
Officials of the district and upazila administrations, leaders of district and upazila units of AL and its associate bodies, different social and professional organizations and civil society placed wreaths there paying
homage to the nuclear scientist.
On behalf of Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Vice-president of Rangpur district AL and Chairman of Dr. Wazed Foundation Chhayadat Hossain Bakul placed wreaths at the grave of Dr. Wazed in the
morning.
Later, AL Presidium Member and former Minister Shajahan Khan, Organizing Secretary of AL Sakhawat Hossain Shafiq, General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, city AL President Shafiar Rahman Shafi, its
General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, Begum Rokeya University Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Sharifa Salowa Dina, Additional Deputy Commissioner AWM Raihan Shah, Additional Superintendent of Police Madhu Sudan and
Assistant Superintendent of Police (D-Circle) Kamruzzaman, leaders of upazila AL, Dr. Wazed Smriti Sangsad, Dr. Wazed Foundation placed wreaths paying tribute to Dr Wazed and offered munajats there.
Dr. Wazed was born on February 16, 1942 in a respectable Muslim family of village Laldighee Fatehpur in Pirganj upazila of the district.
He died on May 9, 2009.
He was laid to eternal rest with full state honour at his family graveyard in his paternal village Laldighee Fatehpur.
