Farmers get income-generation support in Rajshahi

A group of marginalized farmers were given income-generating support aimed at improving their living and livelihood conditions in the district on Friday.
Ten farmers were given goats, while two students Taka 12,000 each as education support as part of a two-day long farmers learning fair at Fazar Ali Mollah Degree College playground under Tanore Upazila in the district.
Regional Office of Caritas Bangladesh hosted the upazila-level mass-awareness generation fair marking its golden jubilee celebration attended by around 500 from different fur-flung areas. Nutrition support project of the organization extended financial assistance to the fair.
On the occasion, five saplings of fruit trees were transplanted on the college campus.
Upazila Chairman Lutfor Haider Rashid, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pankaz Chandra Debnath, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sikrity Pramanik, Union Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman and Caritas Regional Director Sukleash George Costa addressed the opening ceremony.
In the fair, farmers set up 30 stalls showcasing their modern technologies and devices being used in farming activities, varieties of crops, fruits and food and indigenous knowledge.
Chairman Lutfor Rashid said the Caritas has been implementing various activities, including aid to the distressed people, education stipend, distribution of domestic animals, high yielding crop promotion and tree plantation, for uplifting the grassroots farmers during the last 50 years.
He also urged the organization to extend the promotional activities more so that the marginalized farmers can uplift them after deriving total benefits of those.
