Foolproof security taken for AL council: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Faruque today said foolproof security measures have been taken to ensure security for the 22nd National Council of the Awami League (AL).

He made the remark after inspecting the security measures taken by the DMP for the AL council to be held in the city’s Suhrawardy Udyan.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the council at 10:30 am.

Sheikh Hasina is the longest-serving president of the party while the party saw eight chiefs and nine secretaries since its inception on June 23, 1949. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the party president on January 25, 1966.

The DMP Commissioner said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with millions of leaders and activists from all over the country will join the council.

“As you know, attempts were taken to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina several times. She was survived by the blessings of the Almighty Allah. That’s why, we have ensured the overall security system considering her safety as the utmost importance at all times,” he said.

Faruque also said archway gates have been installed at every gate on the occasion of tomorrow’s council, adding, “Sweeping was conducted with dog squads. An adequate number of plainclothes police will be deployed along with other law enforcers. The entire area will be covered by CCTV cameras. The CCTV cameras will be monitored in real-time from the temporary control room at Suhrawardy Udyan.”

Among others, Additional Commissioners – Mir Rezaul Alam, AKM Hafiz Akhtar, Md Munibur Rahman, Md Asaduzzaman, Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, Dr KH Mahid Uddin, Joint Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar and Deputy Commissioners were present.
