Hearing of graft cases against GK Shamim adjourned till March 15

A Dhaka court today adjourned till March 15 the hearing in a case filed for amassing illegal wealth against controversial contractor Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim and his mother Ayesha Akter.

The case was scheduled to be heard at Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 today. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) however, pleaded for time as no new prosecution witness (PW) appeared before the court for testifying in the case. Allowing the time plea, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam adjourned the hearing till March 15.

The ACC on October 21, 2019, filed the case against GK Shamim and his mother Ayesha Akter for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 297.08 crore. The anti-graft body on December 22, 2020, filed charge-sheet against the mother-son duo.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 on October 18, 2022, framed charges against the two accused, initiating the trial officially.
