Lockdown not a solution to get rid of Covid: Zahid Maleque

Staff Correspondent:   Lockdown cannot be a long-term solution to prevent deadly coronavirus infection, rather, everybody needs vaccine to get protected from the disease, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque.

At the same time, he called upon all to move outside following the health guidelines.  The minister was speaking joining a discussion online organised in observance of the 24th university day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Thursday afternoon.

Zahid Maleque said, “You know that the government has tried its best to continue vaccinating the country’s people. But, we have received vaccine in middle of our way. We have already paid in advance to Serum Institute of India (SII) for vaccine. You all know about it.

Now, we have approved the vaccines made by Russia and China so that we can continue our vaccination programme,” he said.  The Health Minister said everybody would have to follow all kinds of health guidelines including wearing mask and maintaining social distance. “We’ll have to find a long-term solution to get rid of coronavirus infection.
