Mass casualties feared following explosion at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda

Hundreds injured, high death toll expected

A fire that broke out Saturday night following an explosion at BM Container Depot, an inland container depot in Chattrogram’s Sitakunda, has left hundreds including Fire Service officials injured and is feared to have killed many.

Early accounts indicate a fire broke out at the container depot around 9:30pm. As Fire Service units worked to put it out, there was an explosion and then the fire spread.

Ten firefighting units were fighting the flames.

BM Container Depot is set up as an inland container depot which is operating from the beginning of May 2011.
