Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

Country’s both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 2.26 points or 0.04 percent to 6,214.69. Two other indices also ended lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 2.64 points to finish at 2,218.35 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 1.91 point to close at 1,357.75.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 4,524.02 million, which was Taka 4,206.64 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 331 issues traded, 81 declined, 68 advanced and 182 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

GENEXIL topped the turnover chart, followed by BSC, SP Ceramics, Olympic and ADNTEL.

BGIC was the day’s top gainer, posting 10 percent gain while ORIONINFU was the worst loser, losing 6.33 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing 10.38 points to settle at 18,336.40 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 7 points to close at 10,992.40.

Of the issues traded, 40 declined, 40 advanced and 58 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 21.67 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Taka 16.49 crore.
