Shakib Al Hasan has become the first Bangladeshi bowler to claim 300 wickets in the ODIs.
The all-rounder achieved the milestone in the third ODI against England in Chattogram where he took four wickets for 35 runs, registering his 10th four-wicket haul in the format.
Shakib’s performance placed him among the six spinners with 300 or more wickets in the format. He accomplished this feat in 227 matches, making him the only current cricketer with 300 ODI wickets.
Also, the all-rounder now ranks 14th on the all-time list of bowlers with the most wickets in ODIs.
Shakib made his debut in the ODIs in 2006 and has been a crucial player for the Tigers since then.
He took 82 wickets against Zimbabwe in ODIs. Another team that Shakib enjoys playing against is New Zealand, against whom he took 37 wickets in the ODIs.
A superb all-round performance from Shakib Al Hasan and some useful contributions earned Bangladesh a consolation 50-run win over England in the third One-Day International (ODI) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Shakib hit a fighting 75 off 71 balls while Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto made 70 and 53 respectively to take Bangladesh to 246 after they opted to bat first.
The Tigers needed a special performance from their bowlers to defend the below average total. And once again, Shakib put his hand up, finishing with 4-35 in his 10 overs to bowl out England for 196 in 43.1 overs.
With his four scalps, Shakib also became the first Bangladeshi to claim 300 wickets in the 50-over format. Shakib is now the 14th highest wicket taker in ODI history and the currently the only active cricketer to have 300 wickets in the format.
Despite the win, Bangladesh have lost the ODI series 1-2, their first ODI series defeat at home since 2016.
Both teams will now gear up for the three-match Twenty20 series, which will begin at the same venue on 9 March.
