Standing beside distressed people is identity of humanity: Shirin Sharmin

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, has said standing by the side of distressed people during their need is the greatest identity of humanity.

“The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken rehabilitation initiatives to provide all humanitarian assistance to the people affected by fire in Majhipara village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur through quick response,” she said.

The Speaker said this while speaking as the chief guest virtually at the handover ceremony of newly built houses to 44 families affected by fire of Majhipara Karimpur Kasba village in Ramnathpur union of Pirganj upazila at Pirganj Upazila Parishad (UP) auditorium here today.

On the occasion, Dr Sharmin handed over the new houses built by Islamic Relief Bangladesh to 44 affected families of Majhipara Karimpur Kasba village.

State Minister for Religious Affairs Md. Faridul Haq Khan, MP, virtually joined the function as a special guest with Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair.

The Speaker said Islamic Relief Bangladesh has already set an example by standing beside the country people while facing any kinds of disaster in the service of humanitarianism.

People of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Local Government, have all extended their hands of cooperation very quickly to the fire-victim of Majhipara Karimpur Kasba village.

“Handing over the newly constructed houses among the fire-victim at the initiative of Islamic Relief Bangladesh is truly exemplary,” she said.

She said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working as a servant of the people to realize the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for economic freedom of common people.

“Massive relief and other assistance activities are underway in flood-hit areas across the country under the leadership of the Premier,” she said.

Appropriate measures have already been taken to keep their livelihood normal by distributing nets and other necessary items among the affected fishermen community of Majhipara Karimpur Kasba village in Pirganj upazila.

“During the disaster, Rangpur district and police administrations have assisted the Majhipara Karimpur Kasba village’s affected people all the time,” she said

Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Biroda Rani Roy and Country Director of Islamic Relief Bangladesh Akmal Sharif spoke virtually on the occasion.

Islamic Relief Bangladesh Senior Programme Officer Khademul Rashed, its Project Officer Tareq Rahman, Pirganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mir Md. Al Kamah Tamal, Acting President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League
Professor Nurul Amin Raja, government officials, civil society members and local elite were present, among others.
