
Three brothers get life terms for Shahin murder case in Pabna

A court has sentenced three brothers to life imprisonment for killing a young man named Shahin Hossain (30) in Pabna Sadar Upazila. At the same time, each of them has been fined Tk 25,000. One more year imprisonment has been ordered for non-payment.
Pabna Special District and Sessions Judge. Ahsan Tareq announced the verdict on Tuesday (February 15) at 12 pm.
The deceased Shahin, son of late Abul Hossain of Charpara village in Kashinathpur of Pabna Sadar Upazila was a carpenter by profession.
The convicts are Babu (38), Md. Mostafa (32) and Md. Abu (35, sons of Md. Shahed Ali of Charpara village of Kashinathpur. All the convicts are fugitives.
According to the case file, on the night of July 27, 2010, on their way back home after finishing their carpentry work, they beat and stabbed deceased Shahin at the culvert road of Ramanandapur in Malonchi. Shahin was rushed to Pabna General Hospital by the locals where he was announced dead.
The next day, Sima Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case with Pabna Sadar Police Station mentioning the names of 10 people. After a long investigation of the case, the police filed a charge sheet against the three, excluding the seven.
The accused have been absconding since the incident. After a lengthy hearing, the court today sentenced three people directly involved in the murder to life in prison.
Defendant’s lawyer Advocate Idris Ali said, ‘We will appeal to the high court.’ From there, I hope that the convicts will be acquitted as innocent.
State counsel Dewan Majnul Haque said the murder case had been proved in the case. In that context, the court today sentenced three people to life imprisonment. Although the convicts have appealed to the high court, there is no chance of commutation of sentence.
Sima Khatun, the plaintiff in the case and wife of the deceased, said, ‘We are not satisfied with this verdict.’ We wanted the maximum punishment for the accused. They have been given life imprisonment even after the murder was proved. We will appeal to the high court soon.
