Two killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Gulshan-2 and Rampura TV Center areas of the capital on Monday.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Abdul Latif, 48, and Sadman Shakib, 31.

DMCH police outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Bachchu Mia told the media that vegetable seller Abdul Latif was seriously injured when his pick-up carrying vegetables collided with a road island at Gulshan-2 around 6 am as he lost control over its wheels.

Locals rescued them and took him to Evercare Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries around 9 am, the OC added.

He further said that the body of the deceased has been kept in the DMCH morgue for autopsy, and the matter has been reported to Gulshan Police Station.

Meanwhile, Rampura Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan told the media that a person named Sadman Sakib was hit by a covered van around 5:30 am while crossing the road in front of Rampura TV Center.

Being in a serious condition, he was rushed to the emergency department of DMCH where the duty doctor declared Shakib dead at 6 am.

Police detained the covered van’s driver and seized the vehicle, said the official.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue. Preparation is underway to file a case under the Road Transport Act in this regard, he added.
