Youth gets 5 years jail for cyber crimes in Bogura

A trial tribunal here today convicted the youth and sentenced him to five years behind the bar on a charge of his involvement in cybercrimes in Bogura district around two and half years back.

The court also fined the convict, Imran Sheikh alias Imon, 27, son of Abdul Khaleque of Beel Gopalhati village under Bagatipara Upazila in Natore district, Taka five lakh.

Rajshahi Divisional Cyber Tribunal Judge Ziaur Rahman found the accused guilty of the charge and handed down the verdict this noon with the presence of the convict in the court.

Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Ismat Ara told the journalists that a case had been lodged with Bogura Sadar Police Station against Imran Sheikh related to his involvement in cyber crimes on July 15, 2019.

Referring to the prosecution story, Ismat Ara said the youth posted objectionable photographs related to a college girl on social media in July of the same year. In the verdict, the tribunal also passed an order of paying the money fine to the victim.

Upon completion of the investigation, police pressed charges against him.

After examining recorded depositions of seven prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal pronounced the verdict.
